Let’s have a look at the list of plans and what it really means. We also let you know how to get an iPhone for ‘free’.
Maxis subscribers can opt for three contracts, 6, 12 or 24 months. In the 6-month option, it’s open to those under Value Plan but those who are currently using Value First and Value Plus 50 are not eligible unless they upgrade their call plans. Then, you’ll need to shell out RM2540 for an 8GB version and RM2960 for a 16GB. However you’ll also stand to receive free 500MB worth of data per month for 6 months.
For those who opt for a 12-month contract there’s four i-Value Plans to choose from. It might seem a little overwhelming at the moment but you just need to choose how much you are willing to pay per month and go with that plan. Let’s have a look at the most expensive i-Value Plan 4 which costs you RM375 per month and you’ll receive 2500 minutes worth of talk time and 3GB of data usage.
Considering airtime is 10 sen per minute, the 2500 minutes is worth RM250 and 3GB is worth RM99 (their current unlimited data plan), the total ‘freebies’ you’re getting is only worth RM349 which you’re actually paying RM375. On top of that, you’ll need to pay RM1080 and RM1470 for 8GB and 16GB iPhone respectively.
How to get an iPhone for free, at least the 8GB version. You’ll need to opt for the RM375 plan and tied to Maxis for two years. A quick count showed that you would have spent RM9000 over the course of two years not including the RM2000 advance payment. From the looks of the table we also understand that the usage that comes with the i-Value Plans do not include SMS.
We know most of you will skip the fine print but there are a few points you need to know before making the purchase. - Airtime only caters to domestic calls only and the free data that you’re getting applies to GPRS usage, not inclusive of roaming and other mobile content downloads.
- You don’t have to pay the advance payment if you are on a RM250 plan and above for 6 months or longer.
- If you’re not using that particular registered line with your new iPhone, Maxis reserves the right to cancel some of the benefits.
- Downgrade of plans will be subjected to penalty.
- Lastly, for those who just ported to Maxis the i-Value Plans in the 24-month contract will not be available to you.
We hope this short explanation will help you to figure out what the plans mean.
